Meaning

API stands for Application Programming Interface: a defined way for one piece of software to request data or actions from another. In SEO work you meet APIs when tools pull data from services, for example when a reporting dashboard reads performance figures, or when a website loads content from a back end. For search engines, content that appears only after an API call in the browser can be harder to process, so confirm with a URL inspection tool that the key content is visible.
