HTTPS

Meaning

HTTPS stands for HyperText Transfer Protocol Secure: the encrypted version of HTTP that protects data sent between a visitor and a website. It uses a certificate, and browsers warn visitors when a site is not secure, which can reduce trust. To adopt it, install a valid certificate, make sure all pages and resources load over HTTPS, redirect the HTTP versions to the secure ones and keep the certificate renewed. It is basic hygiene for any site that collects forms or logins. See also: HTTP, Redirect, and the guide Technical SEO Basics: Speed, Mobile, Crawling and Security.
